Self-Guided Tour of Exhibits
TKAAM is composed of three exhibit areas, the Main Gallery, Permanent Collection Wing and the Balcony Gallery. The Main Gallery is a changing gallery that displays our major exhibitions which educate and inspire our visitors through the stories of the African American experience in Kansas. The Permanent Collection Wing contains our collection of authentic African artifacts, including tribal masks, headdresses, and statues. Also, on display are exhibits featuring items from our permanent collection including photographs from Kansas native Gordon Parks, artwork from Dr. Samella Lewis, Elizabeth Catlett and Jacob Lawrence, and jazz and blues photographs from area performers. The Balcony Gallery contains changing exhibits that include artwork of young artists and historical photos of early black Kansas.
Group Tours
We offer age-appropriate tours for adult groups, school groups and pre-school groups. Tours can be scheduled for the general public and be tailored to satisfy special interests and needs.

Hold Your Next Event AT TKAAM
Housed in the historic Calvary Baptist church, The Kansas African American Museum offers a unique setting for special events. The building, with its beautiful stained glass windows, sky light and original wood floors will be a wonderful setting for any event. Our facility is equipped for both public and private events including corporate events, seminars, organizational meetings, weddings and a host of other events.The facility is also available for rental to members of the museum.
